Why I Taiwander

To share what I learn about the East Asian world.

As long as I can remember, I have loved East Asia. When my daughter showed interest in a young man from Taiwan, I decided my due diligence as her mom was to learn about him, his country, and his culture. So I jumped in with both feet, realizing along the way that I was thoroughly enjoying the process.

The starting point: Joseph from Taiwan.

East Asia is a subject that I’ve always wanted to learn more about. Getting to know it through someone who is from this area of the world has added a personal element to learning that appeals to my nurturing tendencies. Understanding him has helped me realize that looking outside of myself and my corner of the world is how real change occurs. What if that saying “Be the change you want to see in the world” is as simple as observing, learning and writing? And what if it was also a fun process? Because it has been a fun process and it continues to be so. Would other people want to take the journey too? MyTaiwanderings was born from that thought.

I I never know what I’m going to find or when I’m going to find it, but when I do I love to write about it! Learning to speak Mandarin, listening to KPOP, drinking this awesome stuff called bubble tea, and more. It’s all part of the journey, and I’d love to have your company.
